About the wine

Since 1739, the Rampolla family has owned the agricultural farm Azienda Agricola S. Lucia in Faulle. The family's estate also includes the Castello dei Rampolla, where the farm is located. Alceo di Napoli inherited the estate in 1965. Back then, Rampolla was mostly a summer residence. They grew wheat and other mixed crops, and there was a large olive orchard, but there were no vineyards. In the late sixties, Alceo started planting his first vineyards. These vineyards are situated on both southeast and southwest-facing slopes, at an altitude of around 380 meters above sea level. In 1980, Rampolla produced their first Sammarco harvest, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. This was during the early days of developing SuperTuscan wines with international grape varieties.

Chianti Classico embodies the intensity and freshness of our territory. The austere elegance of Sangiovese is enhanced by the addition of variable percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The result is a wine that is fresh, but also intense, fruity, full-bodied, and balanced. It boasts a vibrant acidity and a lingering, harmonious finish. The Castello dei Rampolla estate is situated in Panzano, in the heart of the Conca d'Oro, or “Golden Basin.” This area is renowned for its ideal terroir for viticulture, thanks to its sunny, south-facing slopes and well-drained, mineral-rich soils. The unique microclimate of the Conca d’Oro allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, imparting the wine with its remarkable balance of freshness and depth.

The resulting Chianti Classico reflects not just the essence of Sangiovese but also the soul of Panzano’s pristine landscape. Its vibrant flavors of ripe cherries, violets, and subtle spices are complemented by earthy undertones and fine, silky tannins. Perfectly pairing with classic Tuscan dishes, it embodies the marriage of tradition and sustainability that defines Castello dei Rampolla.
