About the wine

Enrico Scavino, even after decades of leading his family estate (founded in 1921), remains driven to improve Barolo production. Known for his innovative spirit, he continues to experiment and vinifies each parcel separately to enhance quality. In 2007, he designed a custom fermentation vessel for his Barolo to refine the extraction of Nebbiolo grapes. Now, with his daughters Elisa and Enrica by his side, his passion is further energized. Located in Castiglione Falletto, the heart of Barolo, Scavino’s vineyards benefit from a mix of tortonian and helvetian soils, combining elegance and power. Enrico has expanded the estate’s holdings, adding notable parcels in Cannubi, Rocche Annunziata, Bricco Ambrogio, and Monviglero over the years.

Rocche dell'Annunziata, located in La Morra and purchased by the Scavino family in 1990, is a prestigious grand cru vineyard known for producing their Barolo Riserva. The vineyard’s unique terroir results in a wine defined by finesse and elegance. With delicate layers of rose petals, violet, lilac, and hints of tar and red cherries, Rocche dell'Annunziata offers a complex yet balanced profile. After fermentation, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in French barriques, followed by another 12 months in large French oak casks. Once bottled, it continues to age for an additional year before being released for sale, ensuring that each bottle is perfectly refined and ready to be enjoyed.

The 2006 vintage in Barolo was exceptional, marked by a long growing season with ideal weather conditions. After a relatively cool start to the year, the summer was warm and dry, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, which contributed to their excellent balance of acidity, tannins, and fruit concentration. The harvest in Barolo began later than usual, starting in early October, allowing the Nebbiolo grapes to reach optimal ripeness. This vintage is renowned for its structure, depth, and aging potential, producing powerful yet elegant wines that have continued to impress over time.
