La Spinetta

La Spinetta is one of the great success stories of modern Italian winemaking, born from the vision of the Rivetti family in the heart of Piedmont. From its early days, the estate has combined deep respect for tradition with a bold, innovative spirit that has helped redefine the image of Italian fine wine.

La Spinetta’s original estate is located in Castagnole delle Lanze, in the hills between Langhe and Monferrato, but their reach has since expanded to include prized vineyards in Barbaresco and Barolo, as well as a separate Tuscan estate, Casanova della Spinetta, in Terricciola. This dual presence allows them to produce both powerful Nebbiolos and elegant Sangioveses, along with world-class whites and aromatic Moscato d’Asti. The name La Spinetta comes from the local term for “top of the hill,” where their first vines were planted. From the outset, the Rivettis have practiced low yields, manual harvesting, and a commitment to sustainability in the vineyards. The estate avoids chemical treatments and emphasizes biodiversity.

Their signature labels, adorned with art by Albrecht Dürer and other classical engravings, reflect the estate’s blend of art, nature, and precision. Iconic wines include the Barbaresco Starderi, Gallina and Valeirano, as well as the Monferrato Rosso Pin, and the rich Tuscan red Sezzana. La Spinetta’s modern cellars combine sleek architecture with gravity-fed winemaking, oak-aging in large and medium-sized barrels, and a clear philosophy: minimal intervention, maximum expression of terroir. The result is wines that are as expressive as they are ageworthy.

Top La Spinetta vintages are: 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019 & 2021.
